SALE! "The Very Difficult Diwali of Sub-Inspector Gurushankar Rajaram" to SHINE Anthology!
I am very pleased to be able to announce that my story "The Very Difficult Diwali of Sub-Inspector Gurushankar Rajaram" has sold to the SHINE Anthology, edited by Jetse de Vries!

I've been holding off on this announcement for a while, because Jetse wasn't sure where exactly the story would be appearing (anthology or online). But he just let me know that it will be appearing as a featured story on the SHINE Anthology website, and in fact will be up by this weekend (!) just in time for the Indian holiday of Diwali (during which the story is set) on October 17.

The SHINE Anthology is an anthology of "near-future, optimistic, sci-fi", which is a neat description of the kind of SF I often like to write, so I'm very thrilled to be associated with the project.

I will post on the LJ when it's online, but for now I say WOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOO! and do the Happy Writer Dance!

Not quite sure how these things are happening, but I'm trying to live by the Viable Paradise Oath: Write. Revise. Submit. Repeat. So I think that has a lot to do with it.

Thanks!

I really think we need to see video footage of the Happy Writer Dance.

One day, though it's more of a Happy Writer Pose with hands thrust high. And a little bouncing up and down!

Sounds like an excuse for a tasty beverage hoist at WFC! Congratulations, and what wonderful timing!

I totally agree. Many hoists, in fact! WFC will be some good celebration for me with the VP gang, what with the two recent sales.

Yippie, indeed! Too bad I didn't think to get a reading at WFC or I could read part of it. Of course, we can also have impromptu readings in the bar at the VP table. Especially after a couple glasses of wine.

No salty cursing in this one, though. Sorry. But there are monkeys! Lots and lots of monkeys (Chris's rule wins again)

Yeah Yeff!
And now, next time we are on a panel together, you will NO EXCUSES to feel like you do not rock (not that you ever did)! Lovely story, and a lovely place for it.

Re: Yeah Yeff!
Hi Brenda!

I will make sure to be less self-dissy on panels from now on. And if I start getting all self-dissy, and you're there, feel free to throw something at me.

Yeah, that was indeed one of my Lincoln City Workshop stories. I did do a revision to work more on depth of character and physical sensations, the things we talked about at the workshop that have in the long run proved very useful.

But I did keep the unwieldy title! Ha! Take *that*, DWS! :-) I'm just kidding. The effect of that workshop has been great once I was able to really integrate the discussions into my writing...

Besides, I'm sure Dean would say "The title/manuscript didn't work for me, but it did work for someone else. Congrats!" He's cool like that.
