the grinding of a writerly gear shift

Did an after-work session at Peets today and the last two days of thinking about "The Dybbuk's Moll" resulted in major setting aside most of what I've written so far (first two scenes). I redid the first scene with totally new words, then blocked out the new plot and remaining scenes.

I'm trying to use this story as a way to explore characters who do all the things I would not do. As a result it's pretty twisted but also feels interesting.

I'll have to set it aside for a while though, as I need to get to work on the story I'm going to submit to WOTF for 2008Q1. The poll closed with some votes and with "The Very Difficult Diwali of Inspector Thirumala Naidu" and "When Crogdor Came Back" tied at 2 votes each. I think "Diwali" is a stronger WOTF-style story with lots of adventure and craaaazy scenes so I'll be revising it!

ecgriffith, a VPXI bud, volunteered to comment on a story so I just might take him up on it. In any case, I need to do a revision on "Diwali" in the next few days. After that, I'll finish up "Dybbuk's Moll" and any final revision on "Diwali" before the end of the year.

Once the smoke clears from the gears grinding, I'll look at how the year went. I think I'm going to be more pleased with the year than I currently feel about it, once I review everything. We'll see...
