blast from my past (Ultraman!)

When I was in first and second grade, we lived in Culver City California. I only lived two blocks from school and I soon discovered that in the morning the school served breakfast and played Japanese monster movies on the TV! (This *was* the 70s, remember). Godzilla, Mothra, Island of the Monsters, and one of my favorites: Ultraman!

Thanks to the wonder of YouTube, I give you: Ultraman Episode 1, "Ultra Operation" (part 1, part 2, part 3).

Is it any wonder I became a science fiction fan?

ETA: They're available on DVD. Birthday present!

And there's a book about the movies, and a biography of Eiji Tsuburaya, the visual effects brain behind the monster movies. Excellent.
