people with something in common

All these people have something in common. Can you guess what it is?

- George Washington
- Arthur Schopenhauer
- Edna St. Vincent Millay
- Luis Bunuel
- Don Pardo
- Robert Wadlow
- Edward Gorey
- Ted Kennedy
- Jonathan Demme
- Julius Erving
- Kyle MacLachlan
- Steve Irwin
- Rachel Dratch
- Jeri Ryan
- Drew Barrymore
- and me!

That would be a pretty good party, I think.

A hint: I also now have something in common with The Answer to Life, the Universe, and Everything.

I'm off to San Francisco today, to hang out with ckastens and attend the Game Developers Conference. It should be a blast. The 2.5 hour train/bus ride each way means lots and lots of writing. Awesome!

how you have a birthday

After a latte and coffee cake on the way to the station, I took the train to SF to visit with ckastens and go to the Game Developers Conference.

On the train down, I finished "The Dybbuk's Moll"! Finished it, I say! Yay!

GDC was much fun, lots of brain-expanding information on the state of the computer game industry (platforms, games, tools, interface stuff, etc).

Chris and I cruised the floor, then had lunch and chatted about writing, then cruised the floor a bit more, then had coffee and chatted more about writing. It was very good, and I owe him a big thanks for the pass to the show. Thanks, Chris!

On the train back I finished "The Straw that Shines Like The Sun", this week's story for deathless_pose. The prompt was "unexpected inheritance". Two stories in one day!

Dinner was a selection of Indian food from Kaveri (yum!), along with whiskey sours. Excellent.

After dinner, I played all the punk rock songs on Guitar Hero 3. Yeah!

Birthday cake was a fruit tart from Whole Foods. Yum again!

Now we're all watching "A Hard Day's Night" and I'm answering the birthday good wishes from LJ and VP and Internet pals.

And that's how you have a birthday! Thanks to everyone!
