NEWS FLASH: 'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince' Bumped to Summer 2009 (at EW, link snurched from dianeofnka). Bummer news, as the movie looks good. And that comment thread is full of seriously, SERIOUSLY, pissed-off HP fans - wow.

Can You Guess Where My Accent Is From? (snurched from idiosyncreant). Excellent site, as I love accents. However, I did pretty bad on this quiz - couldn't even get half.

Jeff Vandermeer on political (speculative) fiction (at Huffington Post, snurched from jaylake). Ooooo, nifty. The concept of political SpecFic has been in my mind a lot, as I occasionally commit some and would like to do more.

Coming Soon from China: Dystopic Futures, the Next Steve Jobs, and a World Full of Drumming Androids (from io9). A very interesting essay about possible futures for China. Good stuff, both for futurism and for writing.

'For Better or for Worse' creator Lynn Johnston not retiring after all (via The Comics Curmudgeon). One wonders how much the situation will affect FBOBW. FBOFW could get real mean and bitter, it could.

culture clash for a 14-year-old

The other day, E and I were driving to a school function (high school starts next week). We were listening to her favorite station, END 107.9 ("today's hit music"), which plays a collection of hip-hop, rock, etc.

"Seven Things" by Miley Cyrus started playing, and E said "Hey! HEY! They play this song on Radio Disney! No!"

(I didn't mention that it started playing on Radio Disney at least a month ago).

E was not thrilled to have her musical tastes being set by Radio Disney.
