for a 15-year-old, it was a day of tragedy

E accidentally dropped her cell phone into a "large household body of water" last night. We heard the shouts all the way in the family room.

The rescue team was quick to action, retrieving the phone (E did that herself), then disassembling the phone and placing all but the battery into a ziploc bag full of rice in a hope to pull the moisture out.

However, signs don't look good for the victim. That red mark on the battery doesn't bode well.

So, we'll be making a visit to the handset repair center today. I do give E a tremendous amount of credit for having the foresight to pay for phone insurance (by herself). She's had a phone a little more than a year and this will be the second replacement. (The first was actually under warranty, because the phone simply broke down under to the sheer volume of texting a teenager can generate. Sony's user testing was, apparently, not comprehensive.)

In other phone related news, by the end of the month I should be a member of the "iPhone Nation". I can hardly wait!
