homer woohoo

a very nice bit of awesome today

Over at LJ community site Not if You Were the Last Short Story on Earth (lastshortstory), benpayne posted a "Top Stories of 2009" list and my story "Cat, Owl, Cigarette" was on the list!

Looking at the other names on the list, I am both very thrilled and very honored to be on such an amazing list. And very humbled.

"Cat, Owl, Cigarette" was published at Byzarium back in March, and is still available online.

Thanks to benpayne for completely making my day!

(I was going to post about how I found three new t-shirts in a bag of stuff from WFC, but this totally beats that out by a mile. Totally.)

two quick articles of interest

- Why Strong Female Characters Are Bad For Women (at Overthinking It, via Dorothy). Rather good exploration of how "unreasonably strong" (my words) female characters (think the "supermodel, astrophysicist, kung-fu fighting, hawtie who throws herself at the nebbish male lead") are really not the kind of females you want to see and don't do any good. It gives some examples of reasonable female characters, and I agree with many of them. Solid discussion in the comments, too. Lots to think about for female characters.

- Men married to smart women live longer (from Times Online). Hear, hear! By that measure, I will be living a very long time.
