- six years in the National Guard,
- a law degree from Indiana University,
- experience as an investigator in the Indiana Attorney General's office,
- a position as a Director in the Inheritance Tax Division,
- experience as an associate publisher of a newspaper and as a practicing lawyer,
- four years in the House of Representatives, and
- eight years in the Senate.
Was quite seriously thought of as not having enough experience to be Vice President?
