Asimov's April/May 2007

A big two-month celebration of the 30th anniversary of Asimov's, with an all-star lineup of names (Steele, Shepard, Barton, Swanick, Williams, Silverberg, Goldstein, Resnick, Kress, Fowler, Devitt, Wolfe). Overall, a pretty impressive issue with a solid group of stories.

After all that, my favorite was "The River Horses" by Allen Steele. I must admit I've had a fondness for the Coyote stories since the very first one. I enjoy their mix of character-based drama with adventure aspects and a frontier world.

I also liked "Distant Replay" by Mike Resnick, a nice little story about a man who ends up with a chance to relive his life, in a way.

Close behind were "Dead Money" by Lucius Shepard, "A Small Room in Koboldtown" by Michael Swanwick, and "Fifth Day" by Jack McDevitt.

I'm betting that some of the stories in this issue end up with Hugo nominations.
