declaring the morning a washout

I poked at the story a bit, typed in some notes, figured out how I wanted to re-organize things, but didn't actually get into the meat of the task.

Instead, I was more interested in reading various internetty things, about health insurance and rhetorical strategies and space exploration, and in perusing news articles and reading other writers' stories (like the Sherman Alexie story in the latest New Yorker).

I'll give it another go this afternoon, and if not this afternoon then tonight. Because I *have* to get this story revised and to the crit group today. No ifs, ands, or buts about it.

But right now it's time for a workout, then after that lunch and the kids and I will each get going on our respective tasks. Sometimes it's tough to get the engine re-started after the vacation break. But it will get re-started!
