In celebration of the King's 75th birthday, I've been listening to Elvis while I work. Here's some of my favorite Elvis songs:
"Burning Love". Starts fast and barely in control and gets faster and wilder as it continues, just like the subject itself. And, in the first version on this 2-for-1 video, Elvis plays guitar!
"(Marie's the Name) His Latest Flame". A classic "broken heart / my best friend's girl" song, with an awesome power-pop piano-driven bridge. Completely earworm-catchy. (Hey, the Smiths did a surprisingly non-mopey cover!)
"A Little Less Conversation". Energy and twang, even if the actual video from the movie is a little controlling-creepy. I really like the JXL remix and video.
"Suspicious Minds". This version has it all: rocking, soulful, the white jumpsuit, Vegas, Elvis kissing the audience members, and Sammy Davis Jr!
"Can't Help Falling In Love With You". Such a marvelous love song, and Elvis's voice is just great in it. The concert video from 1973 is a little jumpy, and his voice a little rougher, so I went for the music only. But if you want to see Elvis sing it, and hear the ladies scream, check out that one.
