brief Hawaii update

Spotty internet access at the hotel and a busy, busy schedule makes for little time for journals and writing. Here's a brief update.

Monday July 9
- fly to Honolulu
- drive around SE part of Oahu to Kane'ohe
- check into hotel
- hit grocery store and drug store for supplies
- food from Korean BBQ near grocery store
- crash

Tuesday July 10
- great snorkeling @Sharks Cove
- eat fantastic fish sandwich @Grass Skirt Grill in Hale'iwa
- all afternoon at Waimea Valley Audobon Center

Wednesday July 11
- snorkel at reef in Kane'ohe Bay with hotel boat
- visit Hawaiian art gallery in Kane'ohe (some nice stuff)
- Byodo-In Temple (impressive and serene)
- go to Kailua, wander about, get acai smoothie @Lanikai Juice
- dinner and music at hotel (nice)

Thursday July 12
- malasadas ("hot fresh goodness") for breakfast (bought at Agnes's in Kailua)
- Hoomaluhia Park Botanical Gardens in Kane'ohe
- Polynesian Cultureal Center in La'ie (way cool)
- dinner and good, long talk at Alan Wong's in Honolulu

Friday July 13
- kayak on Kane'ohe Bay
- Polynesian Cultural Center, Day 2 (with lots of personal participation)
- ahi sandwich @Grass Skirt Grill in Hane'iwa
- walk from Hane'iwa Beach to beach where LOST is filmed
- sunset and chat with some Austrians on walk back
- drive H2/H3/H1 (the highway tour) to Kane'ohe

Things have been busy and really enjoyable. We are getting a lot of sun and running around the island. I may have killed my cell phone (I thought the ziploc bag was waterproof). It's going great. There's not much writing, due to being busy and being tired.
