writing-wise, it's the weekend of "no"

Friday, I received a reply on my submission of "Apologies All Around" to F&SF. The answer was "no", with the note from John Joseph Adams saying, essentially, "sorry, but this short-short didn't work for me". Oh well. Next step will be to send "Apologies" to Analog for their "Probability Zero" (short-short) section. However, I'm not sure if I should wait until I hear a reply on "This Moment", which has been there for two months (good indicator? bad indicator? unknown?).

Today, I received an email reply from flashquake on my submission of "Owl, Cat, Cigarette". It was also a "no", but with some nice comments: "great concept, nicely rendered, weak ending." Y'know, I can see their point. I've always been a little dissatisfied with the ending. It's something to think about before I figure out what to do next with the story.

Well, at least I'm putting work out there. But two "no"s in one weekend is still tough.
